One of the most life-changing things I ever learned came from Mythbusters, where they tested and proved (with cognitive testing puzzles and reaction time tests) that lying down and resting with the intention to sleep STILL provided significant mental benefits over just staying awake, even if a person couldn’t fall asleep in the amount of time they had.
It helps me to actually sleep to know that just lying down with my eyes closed is still doing me some good, and helps me to not freak out/beat myself up when I stay up later than intended. Any amount of rest is better than no rest!

With so many elections coming up worldwide it’s probably a good time to remind everyone that tumblr once got infested with agents trying to convince everyone not to vote, or not to vote left because the candidates weren’t morally pure enough.
Also a reminder that they were better at tumblr than most of us, comrade interloper was great at memeing. Like, the talent!
Anyway don’t fall for it. There is no morally pure option.
Vote for whoever can move you one inch closer to your goals. This is a long game. If there’s a candidate who wants to move you a mile closer to your goals but they do not stand a chance in the general election, you vote for whoever can move you one inch closer to your goals. The time to vote for the “one mile” candidate in the primaries. Once you get to the general, you vote for the one who has a chance in hell of winning, or you’re actively working against progress. 100% of the time, voting in a general for a “can’t win” candidate because their beliefs align more with your beliefs is actively working for the opposition. There is no situation in which this is not true.
Why can’t I go on an adventure in a beautiful world full of magic, dragons, elves and fae? Why can’t I roam the world with a group of misfits that slowly becomes like a family to me? Why can’t I spend my evenings with them around the campfire telling stories and singing songs? Why can’t I find true love in a person that would always stand by my side? Why can’t I fight for the world and the people I love with a sword and a shield? Why can’t I have a higher, honourable purpose in life? Why must I instead think about finding a job, finances, politics and climate change?
gonna just dip my toe into some fairly toxic discourse
to say that when people hold up asexuals like me as a reason to ban any expression of kink from pride parades and the like, i am reminded of an experience i had in kindergarten, where a fellow five-year-old completely misunderstood how my dairy allergies worked and thought he could make me pass out by waving a piece of cheese at me.
like, okay, i don’t experience sexual attraction to anybody; that doesn’t mean i’m gonna melt like the wicked witch of the west if i see someone else wearing bondage gear. i’m a grown adult and frankly, straight allo culture throws more explicit portrayals of sexuality at me every day. trust me, i can handle it. don’t project your puritan ideals onto me.
for the record, speaking only for this asexual, the actual things that make me uncomfortable at pride are cops, crowds, and (as someone very susceptible to burning and heat exhaustion) the sun. one of those things should be banned while the other two are basically inevitable. kink doesn’t even begin to factor into it.
i am usually annoyed when a post of mine goes semi-viral because of all the asinine commentary but every time this post circulates the notes are nothing but people talking about how much they love mourning doves or what their “all i saw today” bird was and tbh i read every tag
